In order for your website to work effectively you have to tell people it's there. There are thousands of new pages being added to the Internet every day: your website is just a drop in the ocean.

No matter how impressive the design or how informative the content, it's not going to appear in the natural listings for many months. If and when it does, it's not going to be in the first half dozen pages brought up by any of the search engines.

Obviously you can publish your website address on your stationery, or if you have retail premises, you can display it in your shop, on till receipts and carrier bags, but if you are an ecommerce only retailer, you must actively market your site online. If you don't, your virtual shop is unlikely to sell much at all.
